Craft/Vocation/Passion/Calling: Holistic Family Chiropractor

SILVR: You’re walking down the street and a beautiful stranger stops you and asks you, “What do you do?”

Dr. Ryan: I help people feel better. I restore normal function in the body so that the body can express optimally.

SILVR: What was the deciding moment that made you to take a leap of faith and start TUNE?

Dr. Ryan: I was working in an office that was very fancy with an extremely high overhead, top of the line equipment, multiple front desk assistants and I saw that my colleagues were enslaving people into unnecessary care. But in order to get results, people were more interested in a trusting relationship and results than all those bells and whistles. As my conviction and confidence grew with my service, I realized that this type of environment wasn’t as necessary as I thought for good business. So I created an office that would give people the time they deserved and the care I would give to myself and my family in a simple setting. The leap of faith was letting go of all the technology and the high-end atmosphere, trusting that I was enough to give to my clients.

SILVR: What’s the scariest decision you’ve ever made in your professional career? Did it work? If so, why? If not, why not?

Dr. Ryan: The scariest decision was probably leaving a thriving practice I built on my own in San Francisco to start all over in San Diego, and yes it has “worked” and together with my wife, we are building a family practice that is thriving beyond our dreams.

SILVR: What was the last patient that you worked on that truly fed your soul or validated your work?

On the same day, we received a text message from a patient who has been with us through her second pregnancy. Our goal was to get her body balanced so she had the best chance to avoid a second C-section. She texted me a few minutes after the birth to let me know that everything happened exactly as she planned, and she and the baby were doing great! She was grateful that we were a part of her team.

Dr. Ryan: Yesterday, a woman came in and has had headaches since she was 10 years old. She is in her mid 20s now. She has tried everything under the sun to heal herself. The headache Institute, pills and acupuncture with no results. Needless to say she had very little faith initially in our process. After the first visit, her headaches were clear for 24 hours for the first time in 15 years. She doesn’t feel the pain anymore and found herself crying out of joy because she hadn’t felt what “normal” was in 15 years.

SILVR: Who was the one person in your professional career that helped or inspired you the most?

Dr. Ryan: Dr. Peter Goldman.

SILVR: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Dr. Ryan: When I was 12 I decided I wanted to be a Physical Therapist after I received care for Achilles tendonitis. I was always fascinated with the human body, and that was my first experience with hands on healing.

SILVR: What do you love the most about what you do?

Dr. Ryan: Getting results, and giving people hope when they’ve lost their faith.

SILVR: What’s next?

Dr. Ryan: We look forward to continuing to serve our community and beyond. Personally, I look forward to providing simple visual technology in visits to objectively asses and measure emotions and how they affect our physiology and healing, so that patients understand their role in the healing process. This, in my experience, is a profoundly empowering tool.
